Spotted Hyena by FoldedWilderness Spotted Hyena by FoldedWilderness
A spotted Hyena, as designed by Lionel Albertino.

Made from a single square sheet of origami paper (12 inches) and painted on one side before folding.
The unpainted side was bright orange and can still be seen in some parts.

For this and an other upcoming model, I had to make a few pre-folds to find some key parts first (like the head) before painting it. I also opened another model I previously made to have a crease pattern to help out.

This piece is nice. The hyena is very popped in your background. You chose a very good piece of paper to do this certain piece. I especially pops in the green hill. The only thing off about it is, well the backgrounds are cool and all, but, these backgrounds aren't really showing me a story. One of the most important things about making a piece is giving the piece's background a story. This particular piece is beautiful. I wonder while looking at your art, "Did he/she even make this" because your pieces really are worthy of being shown on here. Mine aren't people use this website to show off but I can sense you have the potential in you to be one of the greats.

I won't be original - great scenery for this one. I especially like the one in the second horizontal shot - cactus makes the show :D

Not to mention that hyena itself is gorgeus :D

Thanks! I really like the cactus too, though the hyena itself doesn't look at it's best in that particular shot; I just had to use it anyway.

And it's really great you did :D It would be a crime not to show off the hyena in such an awesome scenery :)

Often overlooked because it is rarely this good! And featured in such great photography.

I have actually started to like the photography part of it as much as making the origami, so I am glad that you like the pictures themselves too.

I know what you mean, I started to enjoy photography when I started taking pictures of my work. The frustrating part is being stuck with an ancient 5 megapixel point and shoot. I'm sick of having to photoshop any depth of field I want in my photos.

But yes the photos are good, I particularly liked these Hyena photos because you took them in a way where viewers can easily lose the sense of scale. Little guy almost looks real in the little thumbnail.

If you enjoy taking pictures and see yourself doing it often; I think it's worth saving up some money over time to get a DSLR camera.
I hesitated a lot before taking the dive, but I am now glad I did.

Ah I've been so tempted! I'll evaluate how often I use my horrible camera :P As an artist, it can be a crutch for your portfolio/digital portfolio as well now that I think about it, or at least if you do a lot of hand build, or traditional paintings, etc. things that can't fit in a folder. Thanks, you got me thinking!

As for paper, I really don't like it when I am out; it always seems like THOSE are the times when I feel like doing origami the most.
