Flame Dragon (Origami) by FoldedWilderness Flame Dragon (Origami) by FoldedWilderness
"Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world,
for I would ride with you upon the wind
and dance upon the mountains like a flame!"

-William Butler Yeats

This dragon is made from a single square sheet of painted paper.
I have used filters to alter the colors in photoshop.

The design is from the talented origami artist origami-artist-galen
and a diagram can be found here fav.me/d4dnzxr

Very nice and clever staging (er... I say "mise en scene", in my foreign language), by the way. ;)

Thank you very much, that is a very nice comment.
I am happy that you mention the background looking like fire because that is what I was going for.

Your folding is so clean! Do you usually fold these in one go or do you do a few practice pieces?

I almost always do several practice runs with regular paper to get the hang of the model and try out a few things.
Because it takes time to prepare a painted paper (painting, drying, re-cutting) I try to wait till I'm sure I can make a good one before going through the process.

Thanks for the comment and favorite.

So epic!!! Great work, as usual. Say, have you kept all of your origami projects? Might be interesting to see them ALL in one picture!

Thank you very much!
I only have a few, since I give most of them away to friends and family after they were pictured.
(well, some have also been damaged, or lost on the field.  May their paper fibers decompose in peace.)

It is however a good idea to make a scene with many of them together, regardless of mismatched proportions to each other.

LOL, poor little creatures. Bummer, but that was to be expected. Although, I kind of pictured your home to have nothing but origami lining every shelf and crevice.

Yes, I have lost more than one in water (from puddles, to ponds, to even a river once) helped by an unexpected gust of wind.

I had a phase where I had a small paper animal invasion going on but, it didn't last.
Now, I let them invade and clutter other peoples shelves instead. :mwahaha:

LOL. So, I wasn't too far off. All I hope is you got a good photo in before the currents swept the poor animals away.

Nice model. It's shame this design has such thick legs that doesn't allow for a lot of posing, but the work you didi with the rest of the elements is great.

Yes, the bird base design leaves the legs thick, small and difficult to work with but, I really like the look; and it is fun to fold too (apart from the sink in the legs).
